Wave at Your Grave

This bottomless glass, my liquid therapy,
With no drive, I drink to feel alive,
Into the grave faster it takes me.
My insides burn from fifths of gasoline
Consumed to fuel the flames and
Into the grave even faster it takes me.
I go unrecognized by my own family.
No longer my mother's son,
And a disgrace in my father's eyes.
Reliving the same day.
A lifetime of mistakes.
No hope for me as far as I can see.
Everyone's lost all faith in me.
My refuge from responsibility
These spirits take me so far away
And into the grave even faster it takes me.
My whole life spent always avoiding life.
This detachment's all I know.
If life ain't nothing but death on vacation,
I'll spend every drunk night homesick,
And I'll just what I can to take be back.
Reliving the same day, am I alive at all?
Gone, another year in the back of my head.
Tonight, I'll kiss the bottle instead.
No hope for me as far as I can see.
Everyone's lost all faith in me.
Just killing time until it takes my life.
I'm trapped in this prolonged suicide.
There's no hope for me.
I'm already in my grave.

Shelter

I see tranquility where you see desolation.
There's a beauty here some never get the chance to see.
Conditions so extreme where only the strong survive.
Where friends became family,
It takes me back, this late night country drive.
At the top of the hill life is so easy.
You're tested when you're down in the valley.
It's where we learned our strength comes from scars.
And this is our shelter where we'll stay dry in the storm.
The comfort I feel from our winters with the sun,
Bringing everything that I have missed with me back home.
This security the city can't offer.
Our questions only home can answer.
At the top of the hill life is so easy.
You're tested when you're down in the valley.
No city lights to black out the stars.
And this is our shelter where we'll stay dry in the storm.
Because I know crawling back to my own home battered and broke,
It isn't easy, but I have my family and friends who I can trust to fall back on.
